Mounted Search and Rescue (MSAR), is one of the Ontario Mounted Special Service Unit's most unique services. This specialty service within Search and Rescue(SAR) uses our certified Mounted Safety Support Officers and Unit Horses to assist in rescue and recovery missions across Ontario.

Paired with Air Scent Tracking skills, our Unit Horses are trained to a high degree for locating lost livestock and products. This service is available for events and private events. All MSAR Officers have completed Ground Search Training that meets Search and Rescue Standards of national and international organizations.

Dr. Julie Corkett, PhD, is a tenured Professor in the Schulich School of Education at Nipissing University, North Bay, Ontario. Additionally, she serves as a Mounted Search and Rescue (MSAR) Training Officer with the Ontario Mounted Special Service Unit (OMSSU).
Dr. Corkett's experience in ground search training was aquired through the Ontario Search and Rescue Volunteer Association (OSARVA). Dr. Corkett's dedication to the feild of MSAR extends to her unique partnership with her 10-year-old PRE Andalusian mare, VA Katerina (Kat). Dr. Corkett's partnership with Kat plays an integral role in OMSSU's MSAR operations, by utilizing Kat's training in air scent tracking to assist in locating missing horses, and when requested, missing people.

Dr. J. Corkett offers clinics that will be sure to strengthen your relationship with your equine partner while broadening your education through this program with OMSSU.
